China can’t erase Buddhism from Tibet: Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama was speaking at the conclusion of the 12th religious conference of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism (Nyimgma, Sakya, Kagyu, Gelug) and Bon tradition on Saturday.

In China alone, the Dalai Lama said, the number of people claiming to be Buddhists has been recorded as 400 million, with most of them being Tibetan Buddhists.

The Nobel Peace Laureate stressed upon ethics and the need for an analytical study of the Buddhist texts to get to the essence of Buddha’s teachings. Urging the importance of warm heartedness and affection towards one another, the Dalai Lama stressed on the need to be rational and analyse the texts of Buddha to derive real benefits from the teachings.

The three-day conference was attended by over 66 representatives from 58 monasteries and Buddhist institutes and Jonang tradition.

Describing the Dalai Lama as a global icon, the conference hailed him for his concern for the Tibetan people and Buddhists all over the world.
