Seven Congressmen from the ruling Democratic party have charged that the Central Intelligence Agency or CIA - America’s top intelligence agency - has mislead the US Congress, especially since 2001.

In reply to the Congressmen’s letter, the CIA Director Leon Panetta wrote to the CIA employees, stating, “Let me be clear. It is not our policy or practice to mislead Congress. That is against our laws and values.”

These Congressmen are Anna G Eshoo, John F Tierney, Rush D Holt, Mike Thompson, Alcee L Hastings, Janice D Schakowsky and Adam Smith.

“Recently you testified that you have determines that top CIA officials have concealed significant actions from all Members of Congress, and mislead Members for a number of years to this week. This is a similar to other deceptions of which we are aware from other recent periods,” the letter by Congressmen said.

“In light of your testimony, we ask that you publicly correct your statement of May 15, 2009,” the Congressmen urged.
