Deported Pak nationals escape from airport

world Updated: Dec 31, 2008 20:53 IST

Over 250 of the 408 Pakistani nationals deported from Turkey escaped from the international airport in the federal capital, prompting authorities to suspend several senior officials and employees who were held responsible for the lapse.

A total of 258 of the deported Pakistani nationals escaped from the airport's domestic lounge shortly after they arrived from Turkey on two flights this morning.

Interior ministry chief Rehman Malik suspended the shift in-charge and the entire staff present at Benazir Bhutto International Airport and ordered an official inquiry.

Efforts are being made to apprehend the people who escaped, interior ministry officials said.
