Barbers in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) have been threatened with arson if they shave off men's beards.
Media reports say many barber shops have already been set on fire or bombed. The jehadi ban also covers video stores because music and cinema are also considered un-Islamic, the Daily Times reported on Friday.
A statement put out by a jehadi outfit reads: "Our beloved Muslim brothers, listen and listen attentively and then think over it - shaving off beards is a great sin.
"This (beard) is the sunnah (path) of our beloved Prophet, but regretfully we have been shaving it off and throwing these blessed hairs at dirty places, which is a shame."
