Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was dropped for Wednesday's FA Cup third-round replay at Southend, leaving his future with the Premier League club in doubt.
Drogba did not even travel with the squad for the game and appears to have fallen out with manager Luiz Felipe Scolari following the club's 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Drogba has appeared out of sorts this season and spent spells injured on the sidelines, and Scolari hinted at changes after the tame performance against United.
France striker Nicolas Anelka, the Premier League's leading scorer, now looks to be Scolari's No. 1 choice.
"I have looked at many games with Anelka and I have looked at the last few games with Didier," Scolari said Tuesday. "I have my opinion and I will put my opinion on the pitch every game." Drogba has been linked with a possible return to Marseille, but the French club has reportedly settled on Brandao as its transfer target in January.
Chelsea has won only once in the last six games. The Blues trail league-leader Liverpool by four points and are one point ahead of United, which has two games in hand.
