Eight people were killed and at least seven others were injured in a pile-up of over 30 vehicles in China's Tianjin municipality local police said.
The accident happened at around 6am at Rongcheng-Wuhai Expressway on Saturday, the municipal police said.
Seven injured were admitted at Tianjin Dagang Hospital.
Four of them have been discharged while three others are in stable condition, doctors at the hospital said.
Witnesses said the heavy fog that has engulfed the city and neighbouring Beijing and Hebei Province since Wednesday was to blame for the accident.
The fog has forced the authorities to close at least five interprovincial expressways in Beijing early Saturday.
