A Somali official on Wednesday said that an explosion has killed eight people travelling in a minibus in southwestern Somalia.
Abdullahi Ibrahim Ahmed, an official in the Gedo region, said on Wednesday that the explosive went off late on Tuesday.
Somali government troops have been fighting Islamist insurgents for months where the bomb exploded. It was not clear if the explosion was caused by an older land mine or a newer roadside bomb planted by insurgents.
Somalia has been mired in violence since 1991.
