Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, whose forces are engaged in a decisive offensive against Tamil Tigers, had a proud moment when he commissioned his son into the country's naval force.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa, second son of Rajapaksa, was among the 70 Midshipmen who were commissioned into the Navy by the President during a grand parade at Trincomalee on Saturday.
It was a touching scene to watch Yoshitha salute his father after latter presented the coveted Sword of Honour to him for being the Best Midshipman.
After the ceremony, Yoshitha bent to touch his parents feet to seek blessings. While the President kissed his son, his wife and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was also present during the ceremony, hugged her son emotionally.
Yoshitha was also declared best shooter, best sportsman and best media officer.
"My wife and I are experiencing the same joy that every parent undergoes when handing over their child for the fight to protect the country," President Rajapaksa said after the presentation ceremony.
