The first woman to lead one of the United States' 16 major intelligence agencies is to be named on Monday. Letitia A. Long is being elevated to director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in a ceremony at the agency's half-built, high-tech campus in Springfield, Virginia. Her 32-year career has led Long to a series of senior management positions. Most recently she was second in command at the Defense Intelligence Agency.

Long is taking over one of the "top computer geek shops" in the national security world. The NGA synthesizes satellite imagery to create three-dimensional, interactive maps.
