Five Pakistani soldiers killed in ambush
At least five Pakistani soldiers have been killed in a bomb attack on a convoy of security forces in the North Waziristan tribal region.
At least five Pakistani soldiers were killed in a bomb attack on a convoy of security forces in the North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday, local TV channels reported.
Four other members of the security forces were also injured in the blast near the military convoy, the reports said.
The convoy was going from North Waziristan to Bannu, a major city at the edge of the northwest tribal area, according to local television channels.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility so far.
Attacks on security forces increased in North Waziristan after local militants scrapped a ceasefire deal with the government in July this year.
Security forces have been stepping up operations recently in a separate region in the northwest tribal areas, killing almost 220 militants so far and forcing militant leaders in some areas to go into hiding.
