Investigators have raided the house of an ex-Sri Lankan cricket captain to nab Dhanuna Tillakaratne, the son-in-law of former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka, who is absconding after an arrest warrant was issued against him in a multi-million dollar defence scam.
The Criminal Investigation Department on Tuesday raided the house of former cricketer and western provincial councillor Hashan Tillakaratne at Piliyandala in Colombo suburbs after receiving information that Dhanuna was hiding at his residence.
"The house was searched as the police received information that Dhanuna was hiding in that house," the Daily Mirror quoted CID Director SSP Vijaya Amarasinghe as saying.
As Hashan Tillakaratne, who is contesting the upcoming April 8 parliamentary polls on the Fonseka led DNA coalition ticket, was not present in the house at the time of the search and the CID officers had asked him to appear before the it, the newspaper reported.
A member of Tillakaratne's family has confirmed that a raid was made, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, the Island Newspaper today said the CID also detained an aunt of Hashan Tillekeratne in this connection.
Hashan was the captain of the Sri Lanka Test team in 2003.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate on February 15 had issued an arrest warrant for Dhanuna Tillekaratna over the multi-million dollar Hicorp deal, a defence contract which was awarded to him when Gen Fonseka was the army chief.
