The Group of Seven rich nations is "committed" to avoiding protectionism amid the global economic crisis, according to a draft statement obtained by AFP at G7 talks in Rome on Saturday.

"G7 remains committed to avoiding protectionist measures, to refraining from raising new barriers" to world trade, according to excerpts of the statement released by a national delegation at the talks.
