Gaza ship raid 'wasn't successful': Israeli ambassador

world Updated: Jun 01, 2010 14:48 IST

Israel's ambassador to Britain admitted on Tuesday that a raid which killed nine passengers on a vessel heading to Gaza in a "freedom flotilla" was not a success.

"It's obvious, and I won't beat around the bush on this, that this wasn't successful," Ron Prosor told BBC radio, when asked if the raid had helped or hindered Israel.

He added that discussions on what had happened are starting in Jerusalem. But Prosor also insisted there were "militant elements" on board the vessel who had brandished knives and metal pipes when faced by Israeli commandos.
