Highlight Story

Adolf Eichmann, logistical mastermind of the Nazi Holocaust of six million Jews, is said to have been shielded from justice for a decade by West German intelligence. He was kidnapped and brought to justice by Israeli agents.

New documents from a Munich archive reveal the intelligence services of both the US and Germany knew where Eichmann was hiding almost a decade before he was kidnapped.

The silence of both agencies may have had to do with protecting both German officials and pro-Nazi clergy in the Vatican who helped him escape.

Goebbels was a 'sex-crazed lothario'
A book has revealed that Nazi Germany's propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels, who walked with a limp, had scores of affairs and was a lothario nicknamed "the ram".

The book, by historian Peter Longerich of the University of London, shows him to have been a depraved, sexually obsessed individual, and an Olympic-class seducer whose "pathological narcissism" led him to record his conquests. Longerich is the first historian to gain access to more than 30,000 sheets of paper Goebbels had left behind, detailing his conquests.

Hitler tour flayed
A British tour company has been slammed over plans for a $ 3,100 package tour of sites relating to Adolf Hitler. Historians are divided over the 30 members, eight-day trip, with some saying it will become a 'perverse pilgrimage'.

The trip, scheduled for June and titled Face of Evil: The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, has been given a go-ahead by the German authorities. The tour sites include the spot where Hitler committed suicide, the lakeside villa where the Holocaust was planned and the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
