Amid a series of terror attacks in Pakistan's NWFP, a top minister on Tuesday underlined the determination of the government to purge the restive province of the menace of terrorism.
"The land of the proud Pushtuns has been a land of peace for centuries. We will defeat all evil designs of anti-state elements," said Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil, Pakistan's federal Communications Minister.
Khalil, who visited the homes of people injured in a wave of terrorist attacks that targeted the NWFP capital, said the affected people will be provided all forms of support by the government, which is determined to eradicate terrorism.
During meetings with peoples' delegations at his residence here, Khalil said people need to be patient and lend a helping hand to the government in restoring peace in the troubled region.
The current government inherited grave problems from the dictatorial regime of the past and these were difficult to overcome. The minister underlined the determination of the government to strengthen the infrastructure in the country and boost development.
"We are working for speedy development in the communications sector and a network of roads is being laid throughout the country, including Peshawar," Khalil said.
"These roads will be completed in time and will spur development in trade, tourism, industry and agriculture," he said.
