Two people were killed on Wednesday when a grenade was thrown into a Buddhist temple in the central Sri Lanka town of Gampola, as the nation remained tense in the aftermath of Tuesday's presidential election.

"A grenade was lobbed into a temple, killing a priest and a civilian. Four others were wounded," military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. He said it was too early to tell if the attack was related to the results of the election.
