Gunmen kidnap son-in-law of top Pakistani army general

Police say gunmen may have kidnapped the son-in-law of a top Pakistani army general, from outside his residence

Police say gunmen may have kidnapped the son-in-law of a top Pakistani army general. They say Amir Malik has been missing since Wednesday, when he was abducted outside his home in the eastern city of Lahore.

Police declined to speculate on the motive behind the kidnapping or whether it was linked to the fact that Malik's father-in-law is General Tariq Majeed. Majeed is chairman of Pakistan's Joint chiefs of Staff Committee.

Kidnappings have spiked in recent years as the security situation in Pakistan has deteriorated. Many victims are prominent businessmen like Malik, who owns a jewelry store.

Police investigator Mohammed Shafique said Friday that authorities are investigating all possible leads.
