Unidentified gunmen shot dead a top leader of the ruling Pakistan People's Party in this eastern city on Saturday, police and witnesses said.
Malik Imtiaz, the vice president of the PPP's Lahore chapter, was travelling in his car when motorcycle-borne gunmen shot him in the city's Mughalpura area, they said. The assailants fled after the attack.

No group claimed responsibility for the killing. Police said the motive behind the murder is unclear.
Witnesses said Imtiaz was hit by a bullet in the chest and died on the way to hospital. PPP leaders said Imtiaz had no enemies.
Scores of PPP activists rushed to the hospital after news of the leader's death spread.
