A helicopter crashed in southern Louisiana yesterday killing seven people on board, with one survivor and another person missing, local media said.
The cause of the crash was unknown. The survivor was taken to a nearby hospital and search crews were combing the area for the chopper's ninth missing occupant, the US Coast Guard told the Louisiana-based television station WWLTV.
The chopper belonged to PHI Inc., a helicopter services company that provides transportation to offshore oil and gas concerns, as well as to the medical and technical services industries, WWLTV said.
The exact location of the crash was not provided, but it took place in the southwest portion of Louisiana's Terrebonne Parish bordering the Gulf of Mexico.
