US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in Abuja on Wednesday as part of her eleven-day trip through Africa to promote development and good governance in the region.
Clinton's aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport in Abuja at 0010 IST. At the fifth stop in her seven-nation tour, Clinton is scheduled to hold talks with Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua later in the day.
Clinton will meet her Nigerian counterpart Ojo Maduekwe in the morning and will proceed to meet US ambassador to Nigeria Renee Sanders before holding talks with the President, US embassy sources said.
She will also meet the country's political elite and members of the civil society to discuss on ways to fight corruption in the country, the sources said.
Nigeria ranks as one of the most corrupt countries in the world, according to Transparency International.
On Thursday, Clinton will leave for Liberia from where she heads to Cape Verde.
She visited Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) yesterday after stops in Angola, South Africa and Kenya.
