A hostage situation was under way Tuesday at an office building near the Missouri state governor's mansion, Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder said in a message released on his Twitter account.
Kinder said that "sharpshooters (are) on roof of Jefferson bldg. Hostage situation unfolding" at the Governor's Office Building across from the governor's mansion in the state capital, Jefferson City.
"Chopper overhead as hostage negotiators are on the scene ...," Kinder said on the popular microblog. "Apparently it's
unfolding on fifth floor Governor office bldg."
Authorities at the state capital building confirmed to AFP that an incident was under way but would not immediately elaborate.
