Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has said that the ignorance of Indian law was the main reason why he was detained by Indian authorities over currency smuggling charges.
“There was no conspiracy,” he clarified, as he addressed a press conference in Lahore after his return from India on Wednesday.
The Pakistani singer also chided the media on both sides of the border for exaggerating the affair. “It was a mistake. It was not something that should be been blown out of proportion,” he said.
He said that it was a genuine misunderstanding on his part and that the money was not entirely his. “It belonged to 14 members of my group,” he said.
Khan also said that he would go to India again when he was invited and that the incident would not affect his singing commitments there.
