India for 'zero-tolerance' against terror

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday sought a "zero-tolerance" approach against terror and underscored the nodal role of the UN in combating international terrorism.

Speaking in the deliberations at the Russia-India-China (RIC) ministerial meet, Mukherjee also thanked Moscow and Beijing for solidarity and sympathies expressed by them in the wake of the Jaipur terror strike.

Mukherjee said there was an urgent need to adopt a comprehensive convention on combating international terrorism by the United Nations.

He rubbished attempts to spark debates on the root causes of terrorism. "Terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable," he said.

Mukherjee called for a "zero-tolerance" approach against terrorism.

The Foreign Ministers of India, China and Russia also discussed a wide range of issues including Afghanistan, the Middle East and global Economic slown.
