A senior US official said on Thursday that India has been getting what it wants from the US in terms of defence equipment and technology.

Assistant secretary of state (political military affairs) Andrew Shapiro said at a briefing that the rejection rate for Indian procurement applications were less than 1%, which is as much as that for the closest allies of the US. The processing time for applications from India was down from about 30-40 days to 17 days.

Shapiro said such defence trade practices sometimes put US at a disadvantageous position. He also rejected claims that US special forces units were being stationed in India.
