Indian-American TV actor Kal Penn will be warming up Democratic bases around the US for President Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic convention Thursday.
Penn — whose actual name is Kalpen Suresh Modi —will host a web-only programme leading to Obama's speech, in an unprecedented outreach announced on Sunday.
Kal Penn is best known for his role in Harold and Kumar.
The Democratic National Convention will be streamed live — as the Republican Convention last week — but with an interactive feature never tried before.
"We are revolutionising the way political conventions are done by making Charlotte 2012 more open, accessible and relevant to the American people," said Obama campaign's Stephanie Cutter.
Called Live from Charlotte, the Penn's programme will include interviews with campaign officials and guests, working party faithfuls at watch parties or anywhere else.
