Vishnu Pandit, a 61-year-old Indian American, was among the 12 killed by Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis on Monday. The family has refused to speak to reporters.
Neighbours have said friends and relatives started arriving soon after the family heard of Pandit’s death. Pandit and his wife lived in the neighbourhood for last 20 years.
Mike Honig, a neighbour, told the Washington Post, Pandit was a “very nice man with an Irish setter”.
“All of the neighbors are doing all they can,” Honig said.
“It’s a terrible tragedy. It’s a stain and strain on the nation that we haven’t put public safety laws in place to prevent this sort of tragedy.”
The other victims were Michael Arnold (59) Sylvia Frasier (53), Kathy Gaarde (62), John Roger Johnson (73), Frank Kohler (50) and Kenneth Bernard Proctor (46).
