An Indian national, suspected of being a drug mule, was arrested in Malaysia after custom authorities became suspicious of a television set he carried all the way from New Delhi to Borneo island.

The 32-year-old unidentified man, was arrested during a routine customs check at the Kuching International Airport two days ago, New Straits Times said on Thursday.

Custom officers found 7 kg of ketamine in 46 plastic bags hidden inside a television set belonging to the man.

The drug, worth over Rs 30 lakh in the black market, is used in medical treatment and is also consumed by addicts.

State Customs director Rusmani Abdul Sukur said yesterday that the man flew from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on March 16 and arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport the same day.

On Tuesday he arrived in Kuching in Malaysia’s eastern Sarawak state. “During a routine check, my officers found the drugs hidden inside the TV set,” Rusmani said, adding that he could be part of a drug syndicate.

The customs officers had found it strange that someone from India was lugging a TV set all the way to Kuching, Rusmani added.
