National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon flew in Colombo for a meeting with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to press for cessation of all hostilities in the island.

The Indian envoys, despatched by the government as the killings continued amidst fears of a political fall in Tamil Nadu, flew in by a special aircraft a little before noon.

From the airport they were flown by a helicopter to "Temple Trees", the official residence of the President, for talks. The two envoys are expected to return to Delhi today itself.
