Indian police rescue Nepalese engineer from abductors

A Nepalese engineer, who was abducted from his country last month, has been rescued by the local police from a village in this north Bihar district.



Shekhar Pokhrel was abducted on July 17 from Devanganj in Nepal and was rescued by Bihar police from a house at Chhitti village last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod Prasad Yadav said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a house where Pokhrel was kept and rescued him, he said.

Four abductors, who had demanded Rs 50 lakh ransom, were also arrested during the operation, he said, adding Pokhrel's family, however, had claimed to have given as advance Rs 12 lakh to the abductors for his release.
