A Malaysian couple and their son have been detained by the police for allegedly beating and scalding their Indian worker with hot water before dumping him in a remote bush area, reports said on Friday.
The couple, owners of a sauce-making factory in the northern Penang state, are believed to have also chained the 28-year-old Indian national for 20 days without giving him food while he was working for them, said district Police Chief Mohamad Anil Shah Abdullah.
"He was then taken in a van and dumped at a remote area," Mohamad Anil was quoted as saying by the Star daily. "A police team rescued the victim, who looked very weak and was starving."
The factory owner and his wife, in their 40s, and their son, in his 20s, were detained on Tuesday and are liable to be charged with causing grievous hurt.
The Indian worker has been hospitalised, police said.
