A 15-year-old Iraqi girl caught with a suicide vest says she was fitted with the explosives by a woman she did not know.
The girl, who identified herself as Rania, spoke during an interrogation by police that was videotaped in front of a group of reporters.
A police officer says the girl was caught on Sunday when she approached a checkpoint with a wire sticking out of her black robe. The officer was involved in the investigation but spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
The girl appeared confused as police pressed her for a confession in the videotape broadcast on Monday, but denied plans to blow herself up.
The number of female suicide bombers in Iraq has more than tripled over the past year.
