In an embarrassment to Israel Defence Forces (IDF), country’s Navy Chief Admiral Eliezer Marom has been reprimanded for having been caught at a Tel Aviv striptease club.
Israel’s largest circulated daily ‘Yediot Ahronoth´ published a report yesterday saying a ‘senior officer´ had been seen at the ‘Go-Go Girls strippers club´ on Monday night. But once Marom’s name became public the IDF Chief of Staff Ashkenazi called him to verbally rebuke him over the “unbecoming behaviour”.
Marom told Ashkenazi that he “was aware that the incident did not accord with what is expected of an officer of his rank, expressed regret that the incident had hurt the IDF’s moral standing and apologised,” the army said.
Ashkenazi rebuked him verbally for his behaviour but contrary to what many had expected did not post the reprimand in Marom’s record.
“It’s certainly doesn’t do us honour, and we just hope the story will blow over as soon as possible,” one senior officer told daily Ha’aretz.
“The Navy was barely recovering from its humiliation during the Second Lebanon War, when a Hezbollah missile struck a naval warship due to what turned out to be negligence on the navy’s part, and the latest scandal does not help the effort to rehabilitate its image,” he was quoted by the daily.
