Today is World Orgasm Day. And no one’s faking it. Before you let your imagination run wild, the special day isn’t about sex but about ‘world peace’. So how does such a climactic moment be associated with global tranquillity? The theory is that if enough people experience an orgasm at the same time, it’ll release a “surge of positive physical and spiritual energy” that will end all conflicts. Oh, and leading up to the moment of reckoning, participants must also wish for world peace. Buy that?

Seventeen million hits have been already registered on the Global Orgasm website, www.globalorgasm.org. Donna Sheehan and Paul Reffell who started Global Orgasm say they don’t have an idea of how many people will come on board their project. "We're not interested in a group sex event,” says Sheehan. “But there are parties we have been told about around the world. Last year Prague and Ankara were two cities where people gathered.” Global Orgasm has been trying to shake up global consciousness for the last two years.

Just by sheer coincidence, today is also Humbug Day, the day that “allows everyone preparing for Christmas to vent their frustrations,” according to Wellcat Holidays, which copyrighted the concept. So, between cooking up an orgasm and being a humbug today, you choose...?
