A nearly complete count of ballots in Italy shows that the conservative party of scandal-plagued Premier Silvio Berlusconi has lost support, while his anti-immigrant ally has made gains in European Parliament voting.

With some 97 percent of vote counted on Monday morning, Berlusconi’s Freedom Party had 34.9 per cent, down from 37.4 in the last Euro vote in 2004. Berlusconi had predicted at one point his party might snare as most as 45 per cent.
