Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Islamabad on a day-long visit to attend the swearing in ceremony of Asif Ali Zardari as Pakistan's next President.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday on a day-long visit to attend the swearing in ceremony of Asif Ali Zardari as Pakistan's next President.

The Afghan President was given a red carpet welcome after he alighted from his aircraft at Chaklala airbase near Rawalpindi. Acting President Muhammadmian Soomro, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Rehman Malik, the chief of the interior ministry received Karzai at the airbase.

The national anthems of both countries were played and a tri-services contingent presented Karzai a salute.
