84-year-old Vatsala Kotnis called on Patil, who is on a six-day visit to China, and gifted some books to her.

Kotnis, who was invited by Patil to be present during her visit, appreciated the President's gesture.

During the meeting, Kotnis invited the President for the centenary celebrations of the Indian doctor to be held in Sholapur, his birth place in Maharashtra, in October this year.

Kotnis was accompanied by her niece during the meeting.

Sources said Patil intends to participate in the celebrations.

Kotnis, born in Sholapur in 1910 graduated from the University of Bombay in 1936 and followed a medical team dispatched by India to aid China in February 1939.
