Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has signed a new agreement allowing the United States to keep using its air base in the Central Asian state, a presidential spokesman said on Tuesday.

"A law ratifying a US-Kyrgyz inter-governmental cooperation agreement as well as an agreement regarding the logistics centre was signed by Bakiyev on July 2," said Bakiyev spokesman Almaz Turdumamatov.

Earlier, Kyrgyz lawmakers unanimously backed a deal allowing the United States to keep open its sole air base in Central Asia, reversing an earlier move to shut it.
