Leopards terrifies residents in Kathmandu

world Updated: Feb 21, 2009 16:46 IST

A leopard, which had created a scare in the city for the past few days, is on Saturday overpowered and sent to the central zoo situated in Jawalakhel.

The wild cat, spotted at Dhapakhel in the outskirt of capital, was found on a tree in the compound of a house belonging to a doctor.

Residents got terrified as the news of Leopard's presence spread in the area.

The police and wildlife experts tried to capture it and after an hour long battle the leopard was overpowered by using tranquilizer.

This is not the first instance of this kind in the city and last week also leopards were sighted at two places in Kathmandu.

A female leopard sighted at Maharajgunj had to be killed, as it could not be caught alive. It also injured two people in the area.

Earlier using tranquilizer trapped a baby leopard, found at Bishalnagar.

According to wildlife experts, these leopards moved to town from the nearby Nagarjun and Shivapuri forest areas.
