The Sri Lankan military on Wednesday claimed it had destroyed the headquarters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)'s sea Tigers.

Defence officials here said that Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets hit the sea Tigers' main base at Puthukuduiruppu in the Mullaitivu district controlled by the rebels in the north at around 1:10 pm (local time).

"The base was completely destroyed including its fuel storage facilities which burst into massive flames by the air attack," an official said, adding that many vehicles parked in the complex were also destroyed.

The LTTE's sea Tigers has had many confrontations with the Sri Lanka Navy in the northeastern seas recently.
