A farmer with mental health problems attacked and killed a child and three adults with an axe on their way to a kindergarten in central China on Wednesday, the local government and media reports said.
The attacker -- a 30-year-old identified as Wang Hongbin -- carried out the deadly assault in Henan province's Gongyi city early Wednesday morning, the city government said in a statement.
He also seriously injured another child and adult in the axe attack, and has since been detained, it added.
"According to locals, the suspect Wang Hongbin has a history of mental health illness," the statement said.
A report on local news website
said the adult victims were all parents taking their children to a kindergarten.
