A senior Maoist CPN-UML leader was attacked by Maoist cadres in eastern Nepal during a nationwide protest against President Dr Ram Baran Yadav’s move to reinstate sacked army chief.

The Maoist cadres on Sunday pelted stones at a vehicle carrying CPN-UML general secretary Ishwor Pokharel Pokharel and politburo member of Pashupati Chaulagai party at Jyamire Bhir village in Ramechhap district, UML sources said.

The attack seems to be taken place in the wake of CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s claim over Prime Ministerial post vacated by Maoist chief Prachanda, who quit the top job after having differences with the President over the issue of army chief.

The Maoists have issued diktat against other political party cadres and leaders to leave the district or face an assault.
