Police responding to an emergency call early on Tuesday found several victims of a possible mass murder-suicide in an upscale home in suburban Victoria, media said.
Saanich Police Department spokesman Sergeant John Price told public broadcaster CBC the killings were not random, and the person responsible for the "multiple" deaths is believed to be among the dead.
"Multiple deceased persons were found in the home," he said, noting the emergency call originated from "inside the home" at about 3 a.m. local time.
"At this stage, we're not looking for anybody outside of the home, so we reasonably believe that the suspect is one of the deceased persons in the home," he added.
Price would not say how many bodies were discovered, nor how they died. But, according to local media reports, as many as five bodies were found in the home.
