A suspected US missile struck a house in a troubled Pakistani tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Thursday, killing at least five people, security officials said.

The incident in the village of Mohammad Khel in the North Waziristan tribal area comes amid rising tensions between Pakistan and the United States over a series of US attacks on alleged Al-Qaeda and Taliban targets.

"A house belonging to two Afghans was destroyed in the missile strike. Initial reports are that five people were killed," a Pakistani security official said on condition of anonymity.
