More than 30 people have been injured in clashes in Bangkok as security forces tried to disperse anti-government protesters in the historic district of the Thai capital, officials said.

Emergency services said 33 people had been hospitalised, as the army vowed to clear one of the Red Shirts' protest sites near Phan Fa Bridge in the old city.

"At Phan Fa bridge, the authorities must finish dispersing the protesters before nightfall," said army spokesman Sunsern Kaewkumnerd.
