Egyptian authorities have raided the apartment of legendary former President Gamal Abdel Nasser's daughter, who failed to pay damages to prominent leader Anwar Sadat's daughter on charges of defamation in Cairo, a media report said.
Egyptian police on Tuesday raided Hoda Abdel Nasser's apartment with the intention of confiscating property for failing to pay damages to Ruqaya Sadat, Ha'aretz online reported.
A Cairo court last year ruled that Hoda must pay 100,000 Egyptian pounds ($18,500) to Ruqaya for defamation, after the former had charged in a magazine interview in 2007 that the latter's father was responsible for the killing of her father by drugging his food, Ha'aretz online reported.
According to doctors, Nasser had died due to heart attack.
As per the report, the police were prevented at the last minute from confiscating property after senior attorneys intervened and postponed the property seizure until Nasser's daughter acts to obtain the required amount.
Both the women have signaled their willingness to compromise, although according to a report in al-Quds al-Arabi Sadat's lawyer has asked her not to come to an agreement.
Anwar Sadat's son and former member of Egyptian parliament Mohammad Anwar Sadat expressed sorrow that the differences in opinion had caused a deep rift between the two families.
