Four years after shunning violence and joining the political mainstream, Maoists in Nepal are finding themselves at crossroads.

At a time when they are aiming to regain power, ideological differences have surfaced at the United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) plenum currently underway at Palungtar in Gorkha district.

The party is now debating whether it needs to adopt a revolutionary character, get pragmatic on completing the peace process or vacillate between both views.

"If the party doesn't become revolutionary ... we will have to raise the red flag for revolt," the Republica quoted vice chairman Mohan Baidya as stating at the plenum.
