Nepal minister quits amidst ‘identity crisis’

Less than 10 days after joining the Jhalanath Khanal cabinet as minister of state for finance, Lhar Kyal Lama resigned today from his post following doubts raised on his ‘identity’. Utpal Parashar reports.

Less than 10 days after joining the Jhalanath Khanal cabinet as minister of state for finance, Lhar Kyal Lama resigned on Thursday from his post following doubts raised on his ‘identity’.

Lama’s move follows media reports showing him having an Indian passport,as well as, a Tibetan refugee identity card, both with different names, besides his Nepali passport.

Lama has termed the allegations as “imaginary” and welcomed a probe.
