At least nine people have died when a bus plunged down a 40-metre deep precipice in southeastern Peru, police said.

Police are investigating whether rain or speeding was the cause of the accident, which took place on a road linking the cities of Cuzco and Quillabamba.

The crash came four days after 14 people died when a bus fell down a cliff and was buried by a landslide in the northeastern Amazon region, police said on Monday.
