Nine people were injured when two ferries collided in southern Bangladesh on Tuesday, police said.
Patuakhali police inspector Faruque Ahmed told AFP the two-decked ferries one travelling from the capital Dhaka to Barisal and the other heading in the opposite direction collided shortly after 3:00 am.
"Nine passengers were injured, among them four are in a critical condition. All nine have been admitted to Barisal Medical Hospital. No one is missing. No one died."
Ahmed said the boat coming from Dhaka was packed with passengers heading home for the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The other ferry was empty.
Ferry accidents due to poor safety standards and overloading are common in Bangladesh, which is criss-crossed by a network of 230 rivers.
