North Korea fired more artillery in the direction of a disputed naval border with South Korea on Wednesday, Yonhap news agency said, hours after the rivals had an initial exchange that stoked regional security tensions.

North Korea said the earlier firing was part of routine military drills and it would fire more into the waters that were inside its territory.

South Korea's Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff could not immediately confirm the report and no casualties have been reported from the earlier incident.
